Hany Abu-Assad’s Paradise Now: One out of many successful WCF funded projects

The World Cinema Fund -WCF is a programme of the German Federal Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes) and the Berlin International Film Festival. It was set up to support filmmakers from developing countries, to help the realisation of films which otherwise could not be produced, i.e. feature films and creative feature-length documentaries with a strong cultural identity. In 2008, for the first time, The Guadalajara International Film Festival in cooperation with Berlin International Film Festival, the German Federal Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes) and the Goethe Institute will host the World Cinema Fund Spotlight.

The event will consist of the theatrical screening of 3 to 5 films that have been supported by the WCF, complemented by a case-study workshop (based on Carlos Reygadas “Luz Silenciosaâ€Â).

The event will be presented by Vincenzo Bugno, founder and co-manager of the Berlinales World Cinema Fund
