Aureliano, hijo de Elías, está predestinado al igual que sus hermanos a morir de forma prematura como castigo divino por un pecado que su padre cometió. Vive su infancia encerrado a causa de una enfermedad y del temor de Elías, quien cree que será el primero en morir. Aureliano tiene el encargo de pintar en retablos la zaga familiar que poco a poco irá desentrañando a través de las narraciones del padre. Así sabrá la razón por la cual están obligados a vivir en el desierto, apartados de la civilización. También construye una iglesia para obtener el perdón de Dios y tiene una relación amorosa con su hermana Micaela, la cual dará otro sentido a su vida.

Aureliano, son of Elías, is predestined, the same as his brothers, to die prematurely as a result of a divine punishment for a sin committed by his father.
He lived throughout his childhood confined because of a disease and Elias’s fear, who believes he will be the first to die.
Aureliano paints the family history in altarpieces, and the plot gradually unravels through the father’s narration.
Until then, he realizes why they are forced to live in the desert, apart from the civilization. He also builds a church to gain God’s forgiveness and starts a love affair with his sister Micaela. This event gives a whole new meaning to his life.

RODRIGO PLÁ se gradúa “cum laude” en el Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC). Ha escrito y dirigido cinco cortometrajes de ficción entre los que cabe destacar: Novia mía premiado en 1996 como mejor cortometraje en el Festival de Biarritz y en el Festival de de Guadalajara, y el Ojo en la nuca, el cual, entre otros premios, recibe en 2001 el Óscar Estudiantil al mejor cortometraje extranjero y el Ariel al mejor cortometraje de ficción. También ha escrito y dirigido dos largometrajes, La Zona y Desierto adentro. El primero recibió diversos reconocimientos internacionales en 2007 como el León del Futuro a la mejor opera prima en el Festival de Venecia, y el premio FIPRESCI en el Festival de Toronto.

Rodrigo Plá is a Cum Laude graduate from CCC (Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica). He has written and directed five short films among which Novia mia and el Ojo en la nuca are the most memorable.
Novia mia was awarded as the best short film in 1996 at the Biarritz film festival and the Guadalajara Film Festival.
El Ojo en la nuca, amongst many awards, won in 2001 the Student Oscar for best foreign short film, and the Ariel for best fiction short film.
He has also written and directed two feature films, La Zona and Desierto Adentro. The first obtained several international awards in 2007 like “el Leon del Futuro” for best first work at the Venice Film Festival (Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia) and the FIPRESCI award in the Toronto Film Festival.
