Dos adolescentes de Mali, Bah y Batrou, se conocen en la escuela secundaria. Bah es el descendiente de un gran guerrero tribal. El padre de Batrou es el jefe militar que representa el Nuevo poder. Los dos adolescents son parte de una generación que rechaza el orden establecido y reta a la sociedad en la que viven.

Two Malian teenagers, Bah and Batrou, are from different backgrounds meet at secondary school. Bah is the descendant of a great tribal chieftain. Batrou’s father a provincial military governor represents the new ruling power. The two teenagers are part of a new generation that rejects the established order and challenges the society in which they live.

SOULEYMANE CISSÉ (Bamako, 1940)
Vivió en Dakar durante su adolescencia hasta que se rompió la federación Senegal-Mali. Estudió en la Unión Soviética en donde hizo cortos como estudiante. Ha hecho un trabajo que combina la elegancia visual con la ideología marxista y las alegorías narrativas. Entre sus películas destaca La luz (Yeleen), considerada uno de los más bellos filmes africanos.

He lived in Dakar during his adolescence until the Senegalese-Mali Federation broke up in 1960, at which point he moved back to Mali. Obtained a three-month grant to study in the Soviet Union, 1961; made short films as a student, L’homme et les idoles (1965), Sources d’inspiration (1966). The Malian director has crafted a body of films that combines visual elegance with Marxist ideology and allegorical storytelling. Among his films, Yeleen is considered the most mystical and the most beautiful of African films.
