En la Alabama rural de 1950, Tyrone, el pianista y dueño de un pequeño bar, “Honeydripper”, espera salvar su local de la ruina contratando al más famoso guitarrista de blues del momento, Guitar Sam. Justo un par de días antes de la esperada actuación de Guitar Sam, llega al pueblo Sonny, un joven guitarrista en busca de trabajo que pide ayuda a Tyrone, pero es arrestado por el sheriff local y enviado a recolectar algodón. Cuando llega el día de la actuación, el músico no aparece en el tren en el que debía llegar. Tyrone tendrá que buscar una solución para no perder la gran oportunidad de cambiar su suerte, salvar el bar de la ruina y ayudar a lanzar una nueva era musical.
In the rural Alabama of 1950, Tyrone, piano player and owner of The Honeydripper Lounge hopes to save the place from closure by hiring the biggest blues guitar player of the moment, Guitar Sam. Just a couple of days before the much-awaited performance, Sonny, a young guitar-player, arrives in town looking for work. He asks Tyrone for help, only to be arrested by the local sheriff and sent to pick cotton. On the day of the show, the train arrives and Guitar Sam is nowhere to be found. Tyrone has to take drastic action not to lose this big make-or-break opportunity, save the club and help launch a new musical era.

JOHN SAYLES (Schenectady, New York, 1950). Su primera película, Return of the Secaucus 7 (1980), ayudó a lanzar el movimiento de cine independiente americano. Otras películas suyas son: Lianna (1983), City of Hope (La ciudad de la esperanza, 1991), Passion Fish (Pasión de mujer, 1992), Lone Star (Estrella solitaria, 1996) y Men with Guns (Hombres armados, 1998. El Festival de San Sebastián, que le dedicó una retrospectiva en 1994 y será homenajeado este año en el Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
His first movie, Return of the Secaucus 7 (1980), helped to launch the American independent film movement. Other films by him are: Lianna (1983), City of Hope (1991), Passion Fish (1992), Lone Star (1996) and Men with Guns (1988) The San Sebastian Film Festival dedicated a retrospective to him in 1994, and this year he will receive a tribute at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
