Intrigued by a story she heard, a filmmaker goes to a remote fishing village in Quintana Roo to film it. The adventure that ensues is an amusing reflection on filmmaking itself, as well as the evanescent nature of searching and the real dangers of making documentaries. A provocative mix of improvisational fiction and documentary scenes, this film provides a new take on traditional story telling. With Ofelia Medina as the Director.

LOURDES PORTILLO (México, 1944)
Directora, guionista y productora de cine y televisión. Estudia en el Instituto de Arte de San Francisco y se vincula a creadores como James Broughton, George Kuchar, Gunvor Nelson y el guionista Lester Cole. En 1985, en colaboración con Susana Muñoz, realiza el documental Madres de Plaza de Mayo que recibe veinte premios internacionales, incluida la nominación al Oscar al Mejor Documental de 1986, y la nominación para un premio Emmy. En 1992 concluye el video experimental Columbus on Trial, el que participa en la Bienal del Museo de Whitney, en los Festivales de Sundance y de Londres, y en la Retrospectiva de Cine Chicano exhibida en el Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián en 1993. En 1994 realiza, uno de sus trabajos más relevantes y de mayor repercusión, The Devil Never Sleeps, que explora en la dinámica de una familia mexicana y en 1999 Corpus: A Home Movie for Selena, acerca de la leyenda de la cantante texana Selena. Se estrena en el Bienale de Venecia. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido como uno de los mejores de la producción cultural sobre latinoamericanos en Estados Unidos. Ha sido distinguida con becas para la creación artística por las fundaciones Rockefeller, MacCarthur, John Simon Guggenheim y el National Endowment for the Arts. Su último largometraje Señorita Extraviada (2001), trata sobre los más de cuatrocientos asesinatos, aún sin esclarecer, de numerosas jóvenes en Juárez (Chihuahua), y ha sido distinguido con numerosos premios nacionales e internacionales. Este trabajo impulso todo un movimiento de Derechos Humanos a enfrentar el feminicidio en México.
En 2004 concluye My Journey Home , cuenta la historia de tres escritores norteamericanos de differentes razas en busca de su identidad cultural. La pelicula los sigue a Nigeria, Vietnam y Mexico, los viajeros tratan de descubrir la suerte que la familia corrio en sus diferentes paises, y asi tambien descubren dolorosos secretos del pasado. Producida por Renee Tajima Peña y Lourdes Portillo. Igualmente se encuentra trabajando en el guión de un proyecto de largometraje de ficción, con el guionista Mexicano Fernando León.

She studies at the San Francisco Art Institute, and establishes contacts with creators such as James Broughton, George Kuchar, Gunvor Nelson and scriptwriter Lester Cole. In 1985, makes the documentary Madres de Plaza de Mayo in collaboration with Susana Muñoz, and receives twenty international prizes, including a nomination to the Oscar for Best Documentary in 1986and a nomination for the Emmy awards. In 1992 finishes the experimental video Columbus on Trial which participates a the biennale at the Whitney Museum, Sundance and Chicago festivals and the Chicano Film Retrospective at the San Sebastian Film festival in 1993. In 1994 she makes one of her most relevant works, The Devil Never Sleeps, which explores the dynamics of a Mexican family and in 1999 Corpus: a Home Movie for Selena, a film for Texan singer Selena. It is premiered at the Venice Biennale. Her work has been recognized as one of the best of cultural productions on Latin Americans in the US. She has been distinguished with artistic creation scholarships, by the Rockefeller, MacCarthur, and John Simon Guggenheim foundations and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her last feature film Señorita Extraviada (2001), deals with the over four hundred assassinations, still unsolved, of young women in Juarez (Chihuahua, Mexico), and has been distinguished with several prizes both nationally and internationally. This work has boosted a whole Human Rights movement to face women killings in Mexico.
In 2004 she concludes My Journey Home, which tells the story of three North American writers, of different races, in search for their cultural identity. The film follow them to Nigeria, Vietnam and Mexico, the travelers try to discover what happened to their families in their respective countries, and thus discover the painful secrets of the past. The film is produced by Renee Tajima Peña and Lourdes Portillo. She is also working on the script for a fiction feature film, with Mexican scriptwriter Fernando León.
