Nuyoricanos: los neoyorquinos latinoamericanos, hispanos de Nueva York, los mensajeros que llegaron de sus tierras al sur (Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia…) y se añadieron a la sopa de letras de la megalópolis norteamericana. Para no disolverse en ella, apuntalaron una comunidad con música y danza. Desde los cuarenta hasta hoy la línea nunca se interrumpe, el pueblo nunca se divide, la negritud y las raíces permanecen. El chalado mambo está reproducido en el síncope de los B-Boys, el mismo color, el mismo descoyunte, la misma pasión. Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, Kid Freeze y más nos acompañan en un viaje rítmico por los sonidos del NY latino.

Nuyoricans. They’re the Latin Americans, New Yorkers, Hispanics of New York. They’re the messengers who arrived from their lands in the South (Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia…) and added themselves to the alphabet soup of the North American megalopolis. And, so as not to dissolve in it, they created a community with music and dance.. From the 40’s, through today, the line is never broken, the town is never divided, the black soul and the roots remain forever. The Crazy Mambo is reproduced in the syncopation of the B-Boys with the same colour, flavor and passion. Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, Kid Freeze and more. HENRY CHALFANT (Sewickley, Pennsylvania, 1940).
Es un reconocido y apreciado fotógrafo y video fotógrafo de la cultura urbana neoyorkina. Sus fotografías forman parte de las colecciones del Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, y del Carnegie Institute en Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Chalfant se graduó en la Universidad de Stanford y es coautor de lo que se considera la historia definitiva del graffiti neoyorquino, “Subway Art” y su secuela “Spray Can Art”.

He is a well known and highly regarded urban culture photographer and videographer most notable for his graffiti and breakdance photography and film. His photos are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Stanford University, he co-authored the definitive account of New York graffiti art, “Subway Art” and a sequel “Spray Can Art”.
