Un alquimista que crea en 1525 una máquina parecida a un reloj que da la vida eterna a cambio de sangre, muere en 1934 en la Ciudad de México. En la época actual y en la misma ciudad, el millonario Dieter de la Guardia, postrado por una enfermedad terminal conoce la existencia de esa máquina y la busca por medio de su sobrino Ángel. Jesús Gris, anticuario, la encuentra por accidente, la hace funcionar y descubre intensidades desconocidas.
In 1535, an alchemist builds an extraordinary mechanism encapsulated into a small golden device. The invention, designed to convey eternal life to its owner, survives its maker until 1997 when it shows up to an antiquarian. Fascinated with the strange device, Jesús Gris doesn’t note that there’s more than one person looking for it. The promise of eternal life has become an obsession to old and sick Mr. De la Guardia. He and his nephew will do anything to get the «Chronos Invention».

GUILLERMO DEL TORO (Guadalajara, Jalisco, 1964)
Empezó a filmar desde adolescente. Pasó diez años en diseño de maquillaje y formó su propia compañía Necropia antes de poder ser el productor ejecutivo de su primer filme a los 21 años. Fue co-fundador del Festival de Cine de Guadalajara y creó la compañía de producción Tequila Gang. Ha dirigido una amplia variedad de películas, desde adaptaciones de cómics como Hellboy y Blade II, hasta películas de terror y fantasía histórica, dos de las cuales se sitúan en España en la época de la Guerra Civil Española. Estas películas, El espinazo del diablo y El laberinto del fauno, son sus dos trabajos más aclamados por la crítica.
Del Toro developed an interest in filmmaking in his early teens. Later, he learned about makeup and effects from the legendary Dick Smith and worked on making his own short films. At the age of 21, Del Toro executive produced his first feature, Doña Herlinda and Her Son. Del Toro spent almost 10 years as a makeup supervisor, and formed his own company, Necropia in the early 1980s. He also produced and directed Mexican television programs at this time. Del Toro got his first big break when Cronos won nine academy awards in Mexico, then went on to win the International Critics Week prize at Cannes. Following this success, Del Toro made his first Hollywood film, Mimic, starring Mira Sorvino. After this he returned to Mexico to form his own production company, The Tequila Gang. With this company Del Toro, directed Espinazo del diablo, El, a Spanish Civil War ghost story. The film was hailed by critics and audiences alike. In 2002, he directed the Wesley Snipes vampire sequel, Blade II. On a roll, Del Toro followed up Blade II with another successful comic-book inspired film, Hellboy, starring one of Del Toro’s favorite actors, Ron Perlman. In 2007 Del Toro directed Pan’s Laberynth premiered in Cannes Film Festival and winner of numerous award including an Academy Award for the Art Director Eugenio Caballero.
