Río de Janeiro en 1997. El policía Nascimiento está a cargo de un comando elite. Se encuentra en un predicamento cuando se le asigna dirigir a una fuerza de respuesta rápida que se le ha dado una tarea, con la intención de mantener en orden una favela regida por narcotraficantes. Incapaz de encontrar un sucesor para su puesto, no tiene otra opción que hacerse cargo del asunto. El asunto es que su esposa Rosane está a punto de dar a luz a su primer hijo y todos los días le ruega que deje de ponerse en la línea de fuego, lo cual hace las cosas más difíciles.

Rio de Janeiro in 1997. Police officer Nascimento is in charge of an elite commando. He finds himself in a quandary when he is assigned to lead a rapid response force that has been given the task, on barest of pretexts, of maintaining law and order in a favela ruled by drug dealers. Unable to come up with a suitable successor for his job, he has no choice but to carry out the assignment himself. The fact that his wife Rosane is about to give birth to their first child and pleads with him every day to stop putting his life on the line, doesn’t make things any easier.

JOSÉ PADILHA (1967). Jamás estudió cine pero lleva ocho años haciendo películas. Director, productor y guionista, su documental Omnibús 174, ganó muchos premios en festivales, entre ellos, el de Amnesty International Award.

Born in Rio de Janiero on 1.8.1967, he studied business studies, politics and economics in his birthplace, followed by English literature and international politics in Oxford. Since 1999 he has produced several documentaries on socially relevant topics, and his own directorial debut, the multi-award-winning documentary ÔNIBUS 174, was received with international acclaim. TROPA DE ELITE marks his debut as a feature film director.
