Ésta es la historia de un joven granjero mexicano, quien contra todas las probabilidades se convirtió en uno de los personajes más influyentes en el campo cinematográfico. Es un retrato de 77 minutos de un hombre cuya pasión por el cine incluyó y acompañó al inmenso poder del cine como una forma de arte y la habilidad de la cinematografía que es crucial en el impacto de los espectadores. Entrevistas con Rally Field y Richard Dreyfuss, el crítico americano Roger Ebert, los directores William Friedkin, Mike Figgis, John McNaughton y también el autor y director Michael Crichton y los cinematógrafos Haskel Wexler A.S.C., John Toll, A.S.C., y varios colegas y amigos como Frank Sinatra Jr. brillan para el proceso creativo de Alonzo. This is the story of a young Mexican farmer boy, who against all odds became one of the most influential characters in the field of cinematography. It is a 77 minutes portrait of a man whose passion for films encompassed and promoted the immense power of film as an art form and the craft of cinematography as crucial to its impact on the viewing audience.
Interviews with actors Sally Field and Richard Dreyfuss, the American Film Critic Roger Ebert, the directors William Friedkin, Mike Figgis, John McNaughton as well as the author and director Michael Crichton and the cinematographers Haskell Wexler A.S.C., John Toll, A.S.C., and many colleagues and friends like Frank Sinatra Jr. shine some light on Alonzo’s creative process. His exceptional capacities as a cinematographer will be explained with the use of film clips from Harold & Maude, Vanishing Point, Sounder, Chinatown, Norma Rae, Scarface, Farewell, My Lovely, Blue Thunder, Internal Affairs and many others.

AXEL SCHILL
Empezó su carrera como actor. Después de terminar la carrera de arte dramático en Alemania y en EEUU, actuó en varias obras y producciones de TV. Su interés por el cine surgió de su trabajo frente a la cámara, decidió profundizar su conocimiento y tuvo un sólido entrenamiento en supervisión de guión en el Hollywod Technical Institute in Los Ángeles.
Desde entonces trabajó en muchas producciones tanto en EEUU como en Alemania. El largometraje documental El hombre que filmó Chinatown es su debut como director.

Started his career as a stage actor. After he completed his drama school in Germany and in the USA, he acted in various stage plays and TV- productions. As his interest for film emerged through his work in front of the camera, he decided to deepen his knowledge and got a solid training in script supervision at the Hollywood Technical Institute in Los Angeles. Since then he worked on many productions in the US as well as in Germany. The feature documentary The Man Who Shot Chinatown: The Life and Work of John A. Alonzo marks his debut as a director.
