Alex de 16 años vive con su padre Frank en un pueblo aislado en el bosque Ardennes. Obligada a apoyarlo después de la trágica muerte de su padre, Alex se encuentra creciendo muy rápido para su edad. Mientras Frank trata de escapar a la apatía en la que se vive desde que su esposa murió, Alex revive, contra su voluntad, el dolor de su padre, poniéndolos en un mundo ambiguo, donde la frontera entre ternura y deseo se convierte frágil. El encuentro inesperado con Héctor, un huérfano de 22 años cuya tía se asegura de que él permanezca inmaduro, llevará a la chica a que abra sus ojos a la relación que tiene con su padre. Juntos, Alex y Héctor tendrán que sacudirse el pasado y empezar a vivir su propia vida.
16-year-old Alex lives with her father Frank in an isolated village of the Ardennes forest. Obligated to support him after the tragic death of her mother, Alex finds herself growing to fast for her age. While Frank tries to escape the apathy in which he lives since the death of his wife, Alex revives, unwillingly, his father’s pain, plunging them both in an ambiguous world, where the frontier between tenderness and desire becomes fragile. The unexpected meeting with Hector, a 22 year old orphan whose aunt makes sure he remains immature, will lead the young woman to open her eyes on the relationship she has with her father. Together, Alex and Hector will have to shake the weight of the past and finally live for her own sake.

STÉPHAN CARPIAUX (Bélgica/Belgium, 1964).
Después de estudiar fotografía, se graduó como director en el Instituto de Difusión de Artes en Louvain-la-Neuve en Bélgica. Su película de estudiante Service Compris ganó premio en los Student Film Awards en Los Ángeles en 1989. De 1990 a 1998, ha escrito y dirigido otros cortos incluyendo Week-end que obtuvo el premio Gold Plaque Award en el Festival de cine de Chicago. En 2001 comienza su propia compañía productora “Hémisphères Films» en Luxemburgo. Las hormigas rojas es su primer largometraje como director y guionista.
After studying photography, he graduated as director in the Institut des Arts de Diffusion (I.A.D) in Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium. His student film, Service Compris won a price in the Student Film Awards in Los Angeles in 1989. From 1990 to 1998, he has written and directed three other short films including Week-end which notably won the Gold Plaque Award at the Chicago International Film Festival. In 2001, he starts up his own production company «Hémisphères Films» in Luxembourg. Les fourmis rouges is his first full-lenght feature film as writter and director.
