Zanga regresa a su pueblo como un hombre exitoso (por lo menos por fuera). Es un ingeniero, entrenado para generar desarrollo en el Mali rural. Pero el nació fuera del matrimonio y fue rechazado por ser un bastardo. Para la gente del pueblo su regreso no era una buena noticia. Así que cuando una joven mujer casi se ahoga en el río, la conclusión es obvia: la diosa del río, Faro, está enojada con el regreso de Zanga. Zanga tenía dos motivos personales para regresar a casa: ayudar a su gente y sacarle la verdad a su madre acerca de su verdadero padre. Ahora su preocupación es retener la creciente marea de ira y el llamado a un sacrificio que pide el jefe.

Zanga returns to his village a successful man – at least on the outside. He is an engineer, trained to bring development to his people in rural Mali. But he was born out of wedlock and cast out from his village for the curse of being a bastard. For the villagers, his return is not good news. So when a young village woman nearly drowns in the river, the conclusion is obvious: the river goddess, Faro, is angered by Zanga’s return. Zanga was driven by two motivations to return home: to help his people and to wrest from his mother the truth about who fathered him. Now his main concerns are holding back a growing tide of anger and the chief’s call for a sacrifice.

SALIF TRAORÉ
Nació en San, Mali, y estudió cine y teatroen el Instituto Africano de Educación Cinematográfica de la Universidad de Ouagadougou en Burkina Faso. Después de realizar varios cortos, dirigió Sida Lakari, una serie de televisión de seis partes. Faro, la reina de las aguas es su primer largometraje.

He was born in San, Mali, and studied film and theatre art at the Institut Africain d’Éducation Cinématographique of the University of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. After making several short films, he directed Sida Lakari, a six-part television series. Faro, la reine des eaux is his first feature film.
