Jacques Drouin dibuja una inolvidable experiencia sensorial. En la superficie de una marco de alfileres imprime sus deseos e intuiciones, trabajando mano a mano con su instrumento favorito. Jacques Drouin draws us into an unforgettable sensory experience. On the surface of the pinscreen he imprints his desires and his intuitions, hurling himself into a hand-to-hand tussle with his favourite instrument. He positions the camera and the lighting to reveal the relief formed by the pins, and continually pivots the screen so that the viewer can glimpse the images hidden behind this mysterious barricade. The repeated harmonies of a rondo for harpsichord by François Couperin give the film its rhythm and shape. Alexeïeff’s invention, caught up in this whirlwind of creativity, appears in a new light.

JACQUES DROUIN. En 1967 descubrió la pantalla de alfileres, un aparato inventado por Alexander Alexeïeff y Claire Parker fpara hacer películas que se vean como grabados fluidos. Después de estudiar en la École des beaux-arts en Montreal y la escuela de cine UCLA film school, Drouin empezó a trabajar con la pantalla de alfileres, realizó Trois exercices sur l’écran d’épingles d’Alexeïeff (1974), que pronto fue seguido por Mindscape (1976). Esta película onírica en la cual los pasos del artista dentro de su propia pintura exploran su imaginación ganó 18 premios internacionales y está catalogado como el número 13 en las mejores animaciones del mundo.

In 1967 he discovered the pinscreen, the apparatus invented by Alexander Alexeïeff and Claire Parker for making films with the look of fluid engravings. After studying at the École des beaux-arts in Montreal and the UCLA film school, Drouin tried his hand at the pinscreen, making Trois exercices sur l’écran d’épingles d’Alexeïeff (1974), soon followed by Mindscape (1976). This dreamlike film, in which an artist steps into his own painting and explores the landscape of his imagination, won 18 international awards and was ranked 13th in a list of the world’s best animated films.
