Inspirada en una historia real The Blue Butterfly trata de la maduración de un joven niño y un hombre maduro, quienes deben aprender a emerger de sus capullos para vivir la vida al máximo.

Ten year-old Pete Carlton is terminally ill with brain cancer and confined to a wheelchair. Funny and intelligent, yet somewhat shy, Pete is stoic and incredibly courageous when it comes to his condition. He seeks refuge by observing the miniature world of cocoons and insects that he collects. Given only months to live, Pete has one wish: to catch the most beautiful butterfly on earth, the legendary Blue Morpho…the Mariposa Azul, a magnificent creature found only in the tropical rain forests of Central and South America. He is convinced that this butterfly with the azure wings can reveal the mystery of life to him.
Inspired by a true story, The Blue Butterfly is about the coming of age of a young boy and a mature man who both must learn to emerge from their protective cocoons to live life to the fullest.

Desde 1978 Léa Pool ha seguido un camino cinematográfico único. Ella ha dirigido ocho largometrajes, todos los cuales han sido seleccionados por los principales festivales internacionales (Cannes, Berlín, Venecia, Sundance, Montreal, Toronto, etc.), además de numerosos documentales. Ganadora de muchos premios a lo largo de su carrera, en noviembre de 2003, dos de los filmes de Léa Pool han sido seleccionados entre los mejores veinte películas en Quebec.
La mariposa azul (The Blue Butterfly), una coproducción Canadá – Reino Unido es el noveno largometraje de Léa Pool.

Since 1978, Léa Pool has pursued a unique cinematographic path. She directed eight feature films, all of which were selected by the major international film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Sundance, Montreal, Toronto, etc.), and numerous documentaries. A winner of many awards throughout her career, Léa Pool saw two of her films, Set Me Free (Emporte-moi) and À corps perdu, chosen amongst the top twenty best films in Quebec in November 2003.
