Opening Ceremony
The 23rd Edition of the Guadalajara Film Festival was officially inaugurated last night at the Opening Ceremony that took place at the Auditorio Metropolitano.
The Opening Gala started shortly after 9:00 pm and it was hosted by actors Arcelia RamÃÂrez and Daniel Jiménez Cacho. The ceremony included a homage to one of the greatest icons of Mexican Cinema, the late Germán Valdez, better known as Tin Tan.
They presented a poignant tribute to one of the most important icons of Mexican cinema: Germán Valdez, aka Tin Tan. A documentary presenting the Mexican “Pachucoâ€Â’s filming work and several interviews with national musicians who express their appreciation for this legendary star followed.
The Guadalajara Film Festival recognized Tin Tan with a Silver honorary Mayahuel which was presented to his wife and children by the famous actress Tongolele who expressed that this was a unique moment to her because when she arrived to Mexico she bumped into Tin Tan in films and theatre and considers him as one of the best film comedians.
The hosts portrayed the numerous activities and tributes that will take place during the Festival and the categories in competition for shorts, feature films and documentaries which will be screened during this XXIII edition. They also presented the juries who will decide on Friday 14 on the awards for participating films.
Another highlight was when Joselo from Café Tacvba – a Grammy Award and Latin Grammy Award-winning Mexican band that became famous for its unique blend of alternative rock and Mexican folk music- presented the Guadalajara Award to the Argentine musician, film composer producer and two-time Academy Award-winner Gustavo Santaolalla.
The ceremony ended with the screening of the Argentine documentary Cafe de los Maestros, directed by Miguel Kohan, which was also produced by Santaolalla together with Lita Stantic.
