saylespost2.jpgJohn Sayles presented on Monday 10 his new film Honeydripper at Teatro Diana in a charity function for the Hospitales Civiles in Guadalajara. Earnings will support the Program for Children with cancer.

John Sayles expressed feeling happy for participating once more in the Festival, since he has been present during the development of the Mexican film industry and feels proud of it. Sayles is notorious for producing independent films and Honeydripper is a true example. He feels proud for providing interesting roles to actors that work with him and mentioned that commercial films do not have appealing characters, and he is honoured to contact effortlessly celebrities to deliver high quality films.

The idea for Honeydripper surged from his personal growth in the fifties when he loved to listen to rock´n´roll. This way he got to listen to blues and realize that rock´n´roll is a way of life and the reason for many people to wait fervently for Saturday night to go out, dance, and listen to some music. From this experience he sought to present, this time with African Americans, who after six long working days, Saturday night would arrive with the opportunity to leave behind their daily activities through the music of blues. With sarcasm, he mentioned that the film was not nominated for an Oscar but received the most significant award for him: best independent film by the most important African American association.
For his closing remarks he mentioned the joy of seeing that Mexico is finding its own voice within film industry and is developing its own audience. Honeydripper has a distribution company in Mexico, and the film’s title is still not defined for its exhibition in the country.
