The most important producer of Mexican cinema, Bertha Navarro, received today the Silver Mayahuel from the Guadalajara International Film Festival in recognition to her brilliant work in the international and national cinema.

Jorge Sanchez, director of the Festival, handed the award to Bertha who had directed the Guadalajara International Film Festival in past editions. She was grateful and blissful with the tribute. “To be in Guadalajara and receive this award is the best thing that could happen to me”, mentioned the producer.

Bertha Navarro has worked with the most prominent Mexican filmmakers such as Alfonso Cuarón and Guillermo del Toro; with Del Toro she produced Cronos and the award winning film Pan´s labyrinth.

In a press conference, Bertha Navarro assured “I have never done a bad film, however some are better than others”, in this way she confirmed her steadfast work regarding her diverse work and the query over the ones that have no been so successful. She also added that she has never faced any limitations to do grand films since she has never accepted a no for an answer and faces up to the risk of doing quality films. She added that she can tackle any risks to tell a good story. When asked is she considered herself a “talent weaver” –as she was named on her previous homage– she replied “I have supported and generate them”. She stressed that she has worked and prepared herself and therefore has been responsible of a great part of this work and now she can “weave” better.

The producer stated that to be involved in a project she needs to be seduced by it and it must encompass values. Her closing remarks were that her most important lesson have been her constant learning and from mistakes one can learn a great deal. “I am not the best or the smartest. I am coherent, with passion, and I act and live by what I believe in.”
