Visionary Campus Guadalajara, a firm first step

creadores2.jpgVisionary Campus Guadalajara concluded. In collaboration with Berlinale Talent Campus, it offered a training space for filmmakers devoted to documentary.

The Centro Universitario de Arte, Arquitectura y Diseño (CUAAD), of the University of Guadalajara, along with the Hotel Fiesta Americana, hosted 68 cinema students from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, who participated in a series film documentary production and distribution workshops and lectures taught by 52 renowned professionals and documentary filmmakers. Three senior lecturers: Don Edkins, Miguel Littin, and Fernando Solanas; nine roundtables for the different aspects of documentary creation with guests like Brian de Palma, Fernando Birri, Alfredo Calvino, Juan Carlos Rulfo, Everardo González, and Fernando Sariñana, among others; workshops and analysis laboratory. The Festival’s director Jorge Sánchez considered that this first event was an important opportunity to train filmmakers and, with its success, hoped that for 2009 it will be repeated.

On Friday 14, the last session was about the relationship between documentary and public television. The Argentinean Tristán Bauer (Canal Encuentro), the Mexicans Fernando Sariñana (Channel 11), Fernando Velázquez (TvUNAM), Eva Villarreal (Channel 22), and Milton Crespo (Telesur Venezuela) were present as tutors. The last laboratory evaluated a documentary project with the help of Nicolás Echevarría.

Visionary Campus Guadalajara took place between March 10-14 during the XXIII edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival with the generous collaboration of Berlinale Talent Campus, the producer Canana Films, and Ambulante Gira de Documentales.
