Gustavo Santaolalla. Guadalajara Award 2008

The International Jury will grant the Mayahuel Award to the participating films in the Official sections.

The Festival has also several non-official awards, among them: the Audience Award, prize awarded by direct vote by the audience in each screening; the Mezcal Award, where 100 young people, 75 of which live in Guadalajara, and 25 from the rest of the country, aged between 18 and 25 years old will choose their favorite film from the Mexican Section. Also in the list are the FIPRESCI and FEISAL Awards granted by international organizations.

Every year the Festival pays homage to a national film personality with a programme which showcases his work and a ceremony at which the Silver Mayahuel is awarded.

The Guadalajara Award is a homage paid to an Ibero-American personality who has had an impact in international cinema. It was awarded in 2007 to director Guillermo del Toro.

For 2008, the Festival has organized a special tribute to the famous Mexican actor Tin Tan (German Valdes), as well as to Argentine directors Fernando Birri, Fernando Solanas and producer Lita Stantic.
