“Sur” by Fernando Solanas

Argentina has one of the most diverse national cinemas in Latin America. From intimate films who seem to move in a universe of its own, to engaged political works which appeal to a universal values. Every year, Argentina unveils a minimum of twelve first works ranging from good to excellent. this production adds up to the steady presence of well established directors and producers in the national and international screens.

The Guadalajara International Film Festival, on its 23rd edition, celebrates the unique and multifaceted Argentine cinema. We have organized activities which range from a selection of films made during the past decade, to homages paid to some of its greatest creators-renown directors and producers as well as to cult figures-. We also have programmed a photo exhibit, which will allow us to meet the faces behind the camera.

Argentina has managed to save its cinema from economic upheavals and nowadays provides an example of a fair legislation for this particular industry. Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate and be inspired by Argentine cinema.
